Communication skill is a crucial skill in itself as developing a strong communication skill is essential when it comes to building a successful career. Effective communication helps us build respect and trust in our personal as well as professional life. It is an art or you can say a type of skill which you’ll have to master sooner or later, so, why not now?

If you’re a college student, suppose you have to share your thoughts among all the students but for that, you shall have to go on the stage to share your views, also you know you can do it but you are shy enough to go on stage then any other boy or girl use it as an opportunity, and these small opportunities play a vital role, make big changes in our life. Another place where you should have knowledge of communication is‐ Let’s say you’ll join a job in near future may be in sales or if you are a doctor or an engineer still then when you’ll have to express your views, your ideas with your team members. Then, what if you won’t be expressed? Will you be to continue with your job then? No, they’ll hire someone else.

SO, WHEN SHOULD YOU START? WHAT WILL BE THE RIGHT TIME/ RIGHT AGE TO START?

You must have heard,” Wake up then dawn”. There is no age limit, but try to learn as early as you can. Now, I’m going to tell you, How to master communication skills?

I will tell you some basic ways, professional ways as well as how to learn this skill at your home. So, let’s get started. The most important thing is ‐language and communication skills are two different things. Generally, people have the misconception that if they will be good at English then their communication skill will be good but it’s nothing like that. It’s only a medium, you can express yourself in English, Hindi, Tamil, etc. Communication skill is a different art, for example‐ You can write the same algorithm in JAVA, Python, C, these all are languages. Language doesn’t matter. But one reality is English is required for high-profile jobs. For example‐ In engineering colleges, there are companies which will take your interview in English but there are companies also for whom language doesn’t matter, what only matters is‐ Your communication skill. So, you should be ready for all situations.

HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR ENGLISH FOR COMMUNICATION?

Read English newspapers, magazines, watch English movies with subtitles, read English audiobooks. Try to speak in English daily at least for one hour, you can talk to anyone in your home or with your friends and relatives. If there is no one with whom you can talk then take any particular topic and speak in front of the mirror. There are professional ways also‐ you can join Personality Development Courses or you can buy online courses also like CHAMBLY, Duolingo, Edwin, etc.

TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR COMMUNICATION SKILL?

The first point is: Be a good listener. Whenever you are talking to anyone, first listen to the person carefully. It has two benefits‐

  1. The person feels that we are giving importance to him/her.
  2.  We speak accordingly.

The second point is: Your posture matters to communicate confidently and clearly. Your body should be open. Avoid folding your arms, putting your hands in the pocket because it means you are putting yourself in a higher position than the person who is in front of you.

The third point is: Maintain eye contact. The listener will think that you’re paying attention to him/her. It will encourage them and they will be convinced by your speech.

The fourth point is: Maintain a positive attitude. Having a positive attitude towards your listener will boost your confidence as they will be willing to listen to you. At last, I would like to mention that, we generally think that only what we say ( it may be sentences or words ) matters but it is not so, our body language is more important. We should be bold and confident. According to a study, our non‐verbal communication accounts for 55 percent of how a listener perceives a speaker. It means that the majority of our message is communicated through our gestures and postures. These were the things which I think if you’ll follow then your communication skill will be good. If you can communicate easily then it’s good but if you can’t then work on it. You may learn to enjoy today, but tomorrow you will have to learn an introspective.
