Climate change is on the agenda at the annual meeting. Oil companies are being accused by climate campaigners of monopolising the conversation.

About two-thirds of the senior economists from the commercial and public sectors surveyed by the global forum anticipated a global recession in 2023, according to the Davos organisers on the opening day of the annual meeting (January 16).

Climate activists participated in the protest march despite the snowfall. At the demonstration staged on the Davos Promenade, a man dressed as a clown can be observed.

According to a Reuters story, climate activists like Greta Thunberg are putting pressure on large oil and gas businesses through a social media campaign that supports a "stop and desist" notice.

The notice, which has more than 660,000 signatures, orders CEOs of energy companies to "immediately stop opening any new oil, gas, or coal exploitation sites, and stop delaying the clean energy transition," according to Reuters.

If the corporations don't comply, the warning also threatens legal action and additional protests.
